The Grosvenor Museum houses collections exploring the history of Chester, its art and silver heritage, and its natural history.
There is a year round programme of special exhibitions and events, with an inspiring service for schools.
Admission to the museum is free.

Buildings, Battles and Bodies: A History of Heronbridge
Activity & Launch Day
Come to the Museum on Saturday 24th May to see our brand new exhibition, that tells the varied and gruesome history of Heronbridge.
Learn more about the Roman settlement and the later Anglo-Saxon fortifications. Learn about the mass grave of battle causalities, full of soldiers that may have taken part in the Battle of Chester in the 7th Century.
We will be hosting various activities whilst the exhibition is on, between 24th May - 2nd November. You can find details of any upcoming events on the Events page of this website.
Join us Saturday 24th May, between 2-4pm , and you can:
- Have the chance to explore the new exhibition and see some amazing Roman objects found on the site.
- Come face to face with Anglo-Saxon warriors excavated from Heronbridge’s mass grave and see some of the weapons they might have used, on loan from National Museums Liverpool and Museums Sheffield.
- Chat to Take 27 to find out how they created an animation of the site.
- Lots of children’s craft activities.
The Museum will be open on Saturday 10:30am - 5:00pm, with the launch activities taking place between 2:00pm - 4:00pm. You can find details of any upcoming events on the Events page of this website.
